After the students come in from lunch I set timer for them to do SWIFT and then we move on to our App Design Journal. The past few weeks we started using a resource from Apple Block-Based App Design Journal for Elementary students. The students are now in groups and they are working through nano CBL. I told the students to design an app that would solve a problem in our school. I then transitioned into more of facilitator. The students divided themselves by interests. I was surprised by the groups that were formed. I had two groups form from the kids that been coming consistently to Lunchtime Code Club. One group is small group of girls, the other is boy and girl group. Each team has been brainstorming what problems they see in our school. Then I ask the students how can app solve the problem? Students are now working through their ideas, and utilizing the Block-Based App Design Journal. I really like the App Design Journal it is easy to use and helps the students learn about App design. We discuss the topics in the design journal and they they apply the ideas learned. My students are super excited to come each day, they have now asked if they can come in the morning before school to code and work on their App project.
