This past weekend as ASTA (Arizona Science Teacher Association) Region 1 Director, I helped in hosting an STEM UnConference on Global Citizenship and what educators are doing to help their students in STEM.
It was wonderful listening to the keynote speaker and then discussing ideas with my colleagues. It seemed fitting for me to mention that if we were doing Community Challenge Base Learning with our students there would be many benefits. Doing STEM and Community Challenge Base Learning help students become innovators and provide engaging opportunities for students to Learn, Create, and Share within our community and outside our community.
After lots of discussion the common thread we recognized is that teachers in our rural area wanted ways to communicate outside their school districts. Before I knew it, we were all gathered around my computer creating Facebook Group for Yuma Educators to post STEM ideas, conferences, PD opportunities. Our challenge was clear, we needed to act now and start making stronger connections in our community of educators.
I am hoping by forming this group I can learn from other educators but also share my passion for CBL and STEM. I LOVE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE BASE LEARNING!!!
For the past year and half I have been sharing with everyone I can think of why I think they should do CBL in their classroom. I have started to make podcasts, Keynotes, iMovies and speak at conferences and teacher professional development trainings about Community Challenge Base Learning.
