The past few weeks we have been working on Scientific Method with my 6th graders. Using the Numbers app has been huge game changer in doing my science units.

With Numbers I am able to organize each section in tabs in the Numbers document and include articles, charts and tables. Students see the tasks required and are able to collect and organize data.

This week we tested reaction time by dropping meter stick with no notice. The participant had to catch the meter stick. Then we collected the number of where their hand stopped on the meter stick to the seconds it took them to react. We used the Slo-Mo Feature on the iPad camera to analyze the results and variables of the experiment. The students also used the stop watch feature on the iPads to collect needed data to compare reaction times among other students. We then contrasted the reaction time to the number of hours of sleep a student got.

Next week the students will be making presentations explaining why getting plenty of sleep is important in relation to reaction time of playing sports, taking tests, or riding their bike on the streets.
